A Gorgeous Wedding At The Lodge At Torrey Pines - La Jolla Wedding

This was a beautiful wedding at an amazing San Diego wedding venue.   A special day set in the natural beauty of the California coastline at The Lodge At Torrey Pines.  The wedding planner was Keli Christenson of Monarch Weddings and she did an incredible job on this wedding.

Upon meeting with the bride and groom earlier in the year at the venue.  They were relieved when they saw how tall I was (6'6" to be exact) because they too are tall and were concerned about having a shorter photographer, shooting from a lower angle which can be unattractive perspective for portraits.  Having a taller photographer has it's advantages.  First and foremost, having the camera slightly above your subject makes for a more complimenting angle for portraits.  Nobody likes to see what's up your nostrils!  And throughout the wedding day I can't even tell you how many times people walk in front of the camera and I just shoot over them, especially on the dance floor!  And with more overall presence, it really helps in getting people's attention during family and bridal party portraits where it is critical to coordinate people to make the portraits happen.

This couple was so photogenic and full of love, we started off with the first look, bridal party portraits, romantic portraits of the bride and groom, and family portraits at the Signature Garden on the upper part of the property.   This is a secluded part of the property where you have the least amount of chance to be seen by the guests.  The wedding ceremony took place on the serene, Arroyo Terrace, overlooking the classic PGA Tour golf course.  After the ceremony we took advantage of the floral arbor and I got one of my favorite images of the day there.  The the lighting was perfect for a dramatic stylized portrait but not ideal for family portraits, where the bride wanted it.  So I brought in some off camera lighting to save the day.

The bride and groom joined the cocktail which was on the other side of the Arroyo Terrace.  Keli planned the timing perfectly for the cocktail to end and the beautiful sunset to begin making for some stunningly romantic photos.  Then the fun really began with the reception at The Maurice Braun Room.

I feel this property is critical to have shot there before to understand the layout and know where all the amazing shots locations are.
